About Hatha Yoga

Hatha Yoga originated in ancient India. The word Hatha means: ‘Ha’ – the sun, ‘Tha’ – the moon, ‘Yoga’ – union; to unify or merge. The sun and moon relate to complimentary energies within us and Hatha Yoga refers to the practice of balancing and uniting these energies. The physical postures (asana) are a vehicle for transformation and have many benefits. They work the body in a balanced way and reach not just our external muscles but our internal muscular skeletal system, eliminate toxins, release tension, tone the spine, balance the glands and positively affect the body’s systems (nervous system, digestion, hormonal system, respiratory system etc). A regular practice can help to retrain postural habits and holding patterns within the body and regulate our energy, bringing the mind and body in to a more harmonious state.

Therapeutic Yoga

Therapeutic Yoga involves the application and adaption of yoga techniques to specifically address and help to manage physical conditions or injuries such as back pain or to help to manage conditions such as stress and depression. Together with addressing the injury or health condition, therapeutic yoga facilitates deeper self discovery and the unfolding of your potential and aspirations in life. It is taught as a personalised and progressive programme, normally on a one to one basis or within a small group, so that the specific needs of the individual can be addressed.
